Could one unthinkable action be followed by another? It may be, if Formula 1 heads get their wish for a standard engine for the racing series. Both Toyota, a team near the bottom of the standings, and Ferrari, which is up near the top as it usually is, have expressed their concerns about such a plan, with both entities threatening to pull out of the racing series if such a path were taken. A Formula 1 world without Ferrari is practically unfathomable, as is seeing a Prancing Horse powered by a McLaren/Mercedes powerplant.

Does one knee-jerk reaction deserve another? (Read the full post about ‘Ferrari may leave F1 if standard engine approved’…)

BRENTWOOD, UNITED KINGDOM – October 28, 2008: Roush Technologies shows its latest bi-fuel Internal Combustion Engine conversion (H2ICE) technology at the Cenex hosted UK National Low Carbon Vehicle event at Millbrook Proving Ground tomorrow (28th October 2008). Roush has modified the engine of a Ford Transit-based vehicle to operate using compressed hydrogen gas fuel – but it can also operate from its existing petrol fuelled system without any adverse effects.

The special demonstration vehicle is designed to show that hydrogen as a fuel – and the associated equipment – are practical and efficient in a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine.

German police mocked by Muppet-driven Audi
Posted Oct 28th 2008 4:31PM by Jonathon RamseyFiled under: Etc., EuroThe British have been known to “take the piss” out of their German counterparts for several decades now, and that goes well back before World War II. Time to score one for the sceptered isle again: somebody in a right-hand-drive vehicle in Germany has been foiling German speed cameras with a Muppet. German cameras are aimed to get clear pictures of the driver in a left-hand-drive car, but not a shot of the passenger — who is, in this case, the driver. All they can get is this googly-eyed fellow. Jim Henson must be pleased. (Read the full post about ‘German police mocked by Muppet-driven Audi’…)

Scheider seals DTM success
Auto Express Car Reviews By James Disdale28th October 2008 Audi ace Timo Scheider took the DTM championship in style last weekend with victory in the season finale at Hockenheim, Germany. The young German held off a strong challenge from the Mercedes of arch-rival Paul di Resta in the middle stint of the race, before pulling out a three-second gap at the flag. Di Resta’s charge was initially delayed by 2007 champion Mattias Ekstrom, who held up the Scot on the opening lap by running his Audi A4 wide in turns two and three. The Swede was later given a stop-go penalty for lining up outside his grid lines at the start. (Read the full post about ‘Scheider seals DTM success’…)

Lorinser Makes The C-Class “Hot” With 305 Hp

SCHWABACH – October 28, 2008: Hot camshafts? In the age of chip tuning, that sounds like a relic of the Eighties. Incorrectly, as there is not much extra power to be gained electronically from a naturally aspirated engine. Mechanical measures continue to be the first choice there, and more effective than ever before in combination with an adjustment of the engine management. One particularly successful example is the C 350 Limousine from Sportservice Lorinser, an almost irresistible temptation for everyone with petrol in their blood: special camshafts and a modified engine control unit kindle here far more fire than the series version of the extremely successful 3.5-litre V6.

Bottom 10: Worst James Bond cars ever
Posted Oct 27th 2008 4:29PM by Frank FilipponioFiled under: Marketing/Advertising, HumorBeing somewhat of a national treasure, the James Bond image is understandably important to the Brits. It can really boost public morale to have Bond associate with the most beautiful women in the world, use the most incredible gadgets, and drive the world’s finest cars. It can be equally devastating, then, to have Bond engaging in any of these activities with anything less than the best. So it comes as little surprise that Channel 4 has called out the Bond creators for some of their awful vehicular choices. They’ve assembled a Bottom 10, if you will, of bad cars that Bond has been forced to drive or co-pilot on the silver screen. (Read the full post about ‘Bottom 10: Worst James Bond cars ever’…)
